Recalling the weekend of February 27-28, 1988

Well since some of you are going to see this on Wednesday February 27, 2008. I thought I would share with you what happened on February 27, 1988 and the next day because it was a very busy weekend for myself with 5 things going on.

1. The weekend began on Saturday morning when I took my ACT test at Wheeling Jesuit University. I think it was called Wheeling College, but I don't remember. It is equivalent by the way to the SAT test.

2. After a quiet Saturday Afternoon, on Saturday night. This is where a king will be crowned. I had mentioned in Friday's blog that the Queen of Queen's was held at Wheeling Park High 3 nights earlier. The first ever Morp dance sponsored by Hi-Y took place at the El Tor Grotto in the Fulton section of Wheeling. I was one of the candidates for MORP king along with Eric McIntire, Bryan Robinson, Mike Prager and a few others. There was speculation that I would win this contest. But when it was all said and done, Aaron McKeever-Kerr, who unofficially was WPHS's 1988 Class Valedictorian since WPHS didn't recognize Valedictorians until 2 years later put the crown on Brad Yeater. Yeater runs Epixtar which has a center in Warwood where McIntire is a manager. The MORP dance which MORP was prom spelled backwards was reportedly only held for 2 years because Michael Clemont, who was the sponsor and Guidance Counselor was let go by the High School.

3. On Sunday Morning, my family went to mass at Our Lady of Seven Dolors in Triadelphia where my maternal grandparents John and Frances McGinnis celebrated their 50th Wedding Anniversary this day by renewing their wedding vows at 10:30 A. M. mass at the mission church for St. Vincent dePaul Parish.

4. I went door to door a couple hours later in the Springdale area for the American Heart Association along with Amy Gallupe-Sauder and Shelly Noble who was a 1989 WPHS Grad.

5. After that, Mr. John Banco, an English Teacher dropped me off to the Elm Grove Civics building where family and friends honored my Grandparents for a 3 hour open house. A guy from Bloons and Tunes sang to them "HAPPY, HAPPY ANNIVERSARY, WE KNOW YOU'LL BOTH STILL BE MARRIED WHEN YOU'RE 93..." Unfortunately, Mrs. McGinnis passed in 1997 and Mr. McGinnis in 2004 and they were in their 80's.

It somehow did prove to be an exhausting weekend somewhat a little bit. Never really would I experience it again.
