W's to talk about

Before handling my Holiday card writing and notes, not to mention making phone calls and such to verify certain addresses and also the Pittsburgh Steelers game tonight, I will highlight a few things real quickly.

The story here inWheeling is mixed this weekend, the state got a shock Saturday night as WVU lost to Pittsburgh. As most of you are aware of. Jim Cochran, who covers Marshall County for the Wheeling newspapers acted like WVU had won this game. Some columnists do their column hours before sometimes. Working for a newspaper though you have to meet deadlines. You will not find anything about the WVU-Pitt game in Sunday's Pittsburgh Post-Gazette. The reason I say mixed is for those who follow Wheeling Central, as their Football team won a fourth straight Class A Championship beating Williamstown in their own backyard at Wheeling Island Stadium in the weekend's Super Six. Williamstown, who lost 2 games in the regular season this year after winning 50 straight plus of those games is in Wood County, where you can say mixed also happened in neighboring Parkersburg, where they won the 3 A title on Saturday afternoon.

With Wheeling's full line GM Dealer Bob Robinson going to the Highlands in a few months or so along with his son Jim's Ford Dealership, St. Clairsville, OH will be selling GMC for the first time since the closing of Clifford Motor, located where Thomas Chrysler-Dodge-Jeep stands now in the city in 1984 as Whiteside completes it's offering of new GM vehicles other than Saab and Saturn which are stand alone to the dealership. Buick and Pontiac which had also been at the old Clifford was added to Whiteside in that year and probably didn't pick up the truck line at the time because Whiteside was Downtown and now located before the city limits after a fire almost a year later, I probably would assume it was the best time to add that line and also it is due to the fact that Belmont County where St. Clairsville is has been without a GMC dealer in almost a year since neighboring Martins Ferry's McKittrick-Harms closed.

With the death of Sean Taylor this week, it did overshadow a NFL moment that happened 15 years ago when Dennis Byrd was paralyzed after he co-sacked a QB against Kansas City. Dennis as you know recovered nicely. It is reminiscent of what happened with Kevin Everett in week 1 with Buffalo against Denver, even though at first it didn't look good.

As my Tripod web site continues it's Holiday Extravaganza, please also be aware that WES the Panda Bear's web site is decorated for the holidays red and green with elf hats being worn by the group. Some pics will be added later to WES's web site by the way.
